Secrets and Lies

Shot 1
Within this scene the first shot shows the outside of the shop in daylight, which shows the main focus of the shop and the sunlight shining onto the special paintings.
The scene where the photography is being taken there is 4 shot- medium. It shows the boy acting uncomfortable by his body language, as he looks fed up; his clothing is very dull as he is wearing black with dark trousers which can symbolizes a British boy. The older man in the scene also looks uncomfortable and irritated because the photographer man goes to sort out his tie when he can do it himself as his is quite old. The main spotlight is on the woman (mother) she is acting confident and her facial expressions
The photographer has a strong cockney accent.
Shot 2
This is a medium shot
Lighting - The lighting in this shot is generally focused on the mans body, so can see that he is very toned and muscled but there is no music in this scene because all we can he is his aggressive voice raring and shouting at the photographer. This adds tension to the shot.
Costume in this scene is very simple he has a pair of boxer shorts on and a pair of gloves, which symbolizes that he is a boxer.
Hair – his hair in this extract is very simple because he has none on his head.
Body language – Body language is very aggressive and he looks hyperactive he seems excited about what he is doing.
Facial expressions in this shot similar to his body language because he is aggressive towards the photographer, but he is also having a joke around by doing silly poses and laughing about it.
Representations of Britishness - He doesn’t really represent britishness because he isn't wearing the British colours. His gloves are red so it could represent love towards this sport or anger and death, because his sport is very aggressive. It could also signify that he is a violent person as red could also represent blood.
Use of stereotypes – This man could be stereotyped because if his colour, and maybe that he could be an aggressive violent person when really he could just be acting and be the complete opposite.
Why have stereotypes been used –Stereotyped could be used to put people in groups for example colour or the sport they do.
Shot 3
The woman in this scene is very dull and boring, her makeup and costume is very plain, and ordinary (nurses) she's from the Asian ethnicity and upset therefore she could be from Viet Nam war. The lighting is based around her face. Her facial expressions are very blank and strong her body language has a guard up and shows to be quite uncomfortable but a strong individual she looks powerful but upset at the same time. There is not much that she says and takes a lot for the photographer to make her smile she comes across as she’d rather no conversation. The light on her face creates more impact to look at her sadness. The colour blue which she is wearing can signify the emotion of being sad as blue reflects as an emotional colour she may be feeling ‘blue’. The stereotype that can reflect from the woman in the video is that Asian affinity does not like this country is dull because of the affect Britain has on the Asian effnic.
Shot 4
Mise-en-scene – woman in white with a baby with no clothes on her hair looks messy and her makeup is not visible. Her body language seems like she is comfortable with her baby but is nervous for her the picture she does not seem to take her eyes of the baby. The light is bright and her clothes blend into the background, there skin stands out as everything is white and the main focus of the scene shows you to look at the baby. This could be stereotyping the typical over protective British mother. The colour shows a white innocent colour however this could be contradicting the stereotypical young mother struggling with her baby however this shows differently.
Shot 5
This shot is a mid-shot because they only show half of their body.
Costume – The costumes in this shot are mostly all the same because the lady is wearing red and the blanket on the table is also red, this could show that the lady is not important in the shot as she blends in with the blanket. But it also doesn’t make the dog stand out either because his fur blends into the background colour, but the main thing that stands out is the collar on the dog because its blue and nothing else in the shot is this sort of colour.
Hair – The dogs hair in this shot is a little scruffy this is why the lady who’s dog is it comb’s his hair to make him look more presentable for the camera. The lady’s hair is also a little messy which shows that she maybe hasn’t made an effort, as she’s not the one getting a picture taken.
Body language – the dog looks a bit aggregated because of the lady keep combs his under his chin, which makes the dog, also look very fed up. The women looks like she's trying to get into the shot as much as she can, this could show jealously that she isn’t in the picture which her dog. But it might be controversial because she might just want to make her dog look good in the photos.
Facial expressions on the dog stay the same because dogs don’t really have expressions but the lady is uncertain that the dog is in the right position because she is getting involved too much and in the end they don’t get a good photograph as the comb was in it.
Sound and Light – The lighting in this shot is focused on the dog in the middle, but this is not clear, as it is quite a bright shot. This adds a clear impression to the shot that the women has a good relationship with her dog, because some dog may be scared of a camera but this dog looks very calm.
Representations of Britishness -    You can tell that they are both British from her skin colour and also what she is weraing.
Stereotypes - You could stereotype this as many old women have a pet to keep them company.
Shot 6
Mise-en-scene – The elderly woman is wearing black to blend in the background to show that the cat is the most important in the picture, her hair is casual, her makeup is quite plain and the only visible makeup is the lipstick she is wearing, her body language is not really shown as she is constantly looking at the cat to make sure it is ok however this can mean that she is uncomfortable as she is standing behind the chair and the cat her facial expressions are quite cheerful and happy. The sound does not really affect this scene as she concentrating on her cat. This can be stereotypical towards elderly women that are more concerned about their cats than anything else. This is portrayed by the constant looking and touching of the can and when she asks the photographer how the cat not her is doing. This is a negative stereotype as this shows she is obsessed with her cat and nothing else which can look embarrassing for the British nation.
Shot 7
Costume – his clothing is very smart, as he is wearing a tie and a suit and with his hair combed back.
Body language - he hasn’t got much body language he looks quite frustrated in his face because the man is not very interested in what he is saying. And he’s trying to make a joke about it and he’s not interested and you can tell this with his facial expressions as he’s doing a fake laugh.
Sound and Light - The sound is a little bit echo that could show dullness and the lighting at the end when the flash goes out make it look like that he is the main focus.
Representations of Britishness - it doesn’t really show brutishness as they talk about his aunt in India, and he speaks in slang using words like ‘init’.
Colour – Colours are brown and dull, which could signify he race. And also his clothes blend into the background that could show he is quite a shy person.
Secrets and Lies 8
Costume - He is dressed with bow tie and suit; he is also wearing a faz to show he is unusual. He has a moustache which is in an abnormal shape which again shows he is unusual.
It looks like he has grey hair underneath his faz which shows he is past middle age.
Lighting - The lighting used is a key light and a filler light so that there is no shadow. This is to show he is the main protagonist and the camera is all on him.
Make-up - His make-up looks pretty natural, which shows his natural side and shows he isn’t all unusual.
Body Language - His body language shows he’s not extremely comfortable, especially when he says ‘no I don’t want flash’ with his hand up and in front of him.
Representations of Britishness - Britishness is shown through his accent.
Use of stereotypes - He is shown as another typical guy showing he doesn’t really want his photo taken but he has to.
Secrets and Lies 9
Costume - The ladies are wearing old-style clothing, to which some are revealing flesh, this shows how desperate they are. The ladies in the blue stands out a bit more than the other ladies because of her blue costume, whereas the other ladies are wearing black.
Hair- Two of the ladies is ginger, and the other one is fake blonde, this shows their separate personalities.
Make-up - Their make-up looks a bit fake, with red lipstick, which shows they are posing for a photo.
Body language and facial expressions - The way two of the ladies are standing up with both their mouths open shows that they are being a bit cheeky, as well as the one with the blue on is sticking her bum out and the other own is showing a bit of her breasts also shows how desperate they are too look nice and young. The other women sitting down shows that she is a bit more relaxed with the way she is sitting, and with her legs crossed shows she is in a more comfortable position.
The woman sitting down is smiling at the camera which also shows she is quite comfortable.
Whereas the other two women have their mouths open which either shows they are aiming to be cheeky / naughty, and they are either really comfortable or a bit nervous.
Sound and Light - The lighting used is a key light, with a filler light to stop the shadows in the background.
Representations of Britishness – They represent British in a bad way because of their behavior because basically there is acting inappropriate for their age.
Colour – The lady in blue really stands out because the background is a brownie colour and the other ladies are wearing black. She could be wearing this to symbolize her behavior.
Use of stereotypes - The stereotypes of these ladies show that they are trying to act younger than what they are, and are trying to be something they are not. This shows us how desperate they are to wanting to be young and wild again.
Secrets and Lies 10
Costume - The young girls are all dressed in blue ballerina outfits, which show they are very feminine, and how young they are, but you would think they would be in pink ballet outfits because pink is stereotyped to be a girl’s colour and blue is more like a boys colour.
This also shows that they are all sisters.
The mother is also dressed in blue which shows her relationship towards her daughters and that they are close and also her dress is also quite old fashioned which shows she is a mum.
The make-up lady is dressed in her outfit that she is most likely to be in when doing a shoot, just the normal t-shirt and shorts.
Hair – The three little girl’s hair is all tied up the same, which could show that the mum loves them all the same and makes the same effort on all of them to get them ready. But then you can see that she is only sorting out the girl on the ends tutu.
Make up - The girl’s make-up is all the same, this also represents that they are sisters.
Body language - The girl’s body language show that they are sister again, with the same leg in front and holding each other. This also represents their relationship and how close they are. Their body language also represents that they are ballerinas with the way they are posing.
Makeup -The mothers and the make-up ladies body language are natural as they are just helping the girls get ready for the photo shoot. The girls facial expressions look a bit confused and fed up, you can tell that they just want to get on with the shoot that they are supposed to be doing.
Sound and Light - The lighting used it key lighting which show that the 3 young girls are and will be centre of attention.
Representations of Britishness - Britishness is shown with the mother and make-up ladies accent, and the girl’s typical ballerina costumes.
Colour – Again the 3 girls in blue stand out from the background, but then the mother has a slightly darker dress, which blends in with the background more.
Use of stereotypes - The stereotype shown here is 3 young sisters doing ballet, because at a young age, it is a stereotype for young girls to do a type of dancing, nearly every girl did some type of dancing at a very young age.
Secrets and Lies 11
Costume - The young boy is wearing a little smart suit which shows he is going to have a photo shoot done for a special occasion due to his smartly dressed clothes. The boy’s hair is blonde which shows his cuteness in the shoot, his hair is also smartly slick back into a nice smart style.
Make-up - The boy’s make-up looks natural.
Body language - The boy’s body language looks natural and comfortable as he is shown picking his nose, which shows he is in a comfortable situation, as he would do that anyway where ever he is.
Facial expressions - His facial expression looks pretty natural as well as if he doesn’t know what's going on but he doesn’t really care, this shows just how young he is.
Sound and Light - The lighting here is a key light and a filler light to show no shadows.
Representations of Britishness - His smart clothing and blonde hair show the young boy’s britishness.
Colour - The boy’s waist coast is a similar colour to the chair he is sitting on, his parents have probably chosen these colours to show their passion and love for their son.
Use of stereotypes - The boy is shown as a typical young boy stereo type as he is shown picking his nose, and not giving a damn with what’s going on.

Harry Potter Assignment

This is a Harry Potter mug that would attracted a wide range of people because it might be bought for an old man or a young child who is into Harry Potter. Also it's a good advertisement peice to have in your cupboard, and shows people your love for Harry Potter. The picture is a mid shot of Harry and the light is mainly shining on his face. Also it looks like he is pointing the wand at us which draw the audience in and portrays the film because Harry Potter is all about magic and wands. Also Harry looks really light in the foreground and the background is very dark which matches the film because the films dark. As christmas is coming up soon this would be a good christmas present, and also as it's cold because we're in winter a lot of people will be having a hot drink.

This xbox is targeted mostly at boys around the age of 12 and above because of its rating. its a great merchandise because not only are you getting a game but it will also tell you a bit about the story so baiscally you are getting sneak preview before the film has actually come out. Also this would be a good advertisement to be in game shops such as HMV and Game.
A poster is the better advertisement strategy because you can put it anywhere and also in public places which means you are getting alot of viewers. This is target at a whole range of target audiences. This can be shown in places like cinemas, train stations, shop windows and bus stops.
Having a t-shirt as a merchandise can be a good idea but also a bad idea because not everyone will buy one and wear which means not many people are seeing it, if you buy one and leave it in your wardrobe. But this can be targeted at everyone but mostly boys, as you wouldn't see a girl in a Harry Potter t-shirt as much as they love him.
A scarf is mostly targeted at boys because it is the colour blue, and also doesn't really attracted the older audience.
This bag is a good merchandise for girls because all girls love Hermione and love bags. Also if they use it out more girls will be encouraged to buy one which will make is good advertisement for Harry Potter 7. Another thing could be that Harry Potter is more like a boys film so they are trying to bring girls into it by bringing out a bag and targetting it at a female audience.

This is a Harry Potter figurine

Still Horror Image

This is my still horror image. The background is very dark and there is only a filler light shining on the bottom of the face to highlight the main features to make it more mysterious. The shot looks like it is a low angle shot but it wasn't taken at an angle, this is because the charater has their head down with their eyes looking directly at the camera which makes it more effective and scary. This is a head shot because you can only she the head and the shoulders. Also from this shot you can't really tell the charaters image as we are not shown alot only the bottom half of the face.

LOW ANGLE SHOT

A low angle and a high angle shot is used in Scrubs. When the camera faces to the man a high angle shot is used to make him look less powering or important because when the camera is used on the lady there is a low angle shot which shows thats she is more important than the man. This is a good way to show the status of people by using these different types of shots.
WORM'S EYE VIEW

This is an example of a worm's eye view because we are seeing the shot shot as if it was coming towards us. A worm's-eye view is a view of an object from below, as though the observer were a worm; the opposite of a bird's-eye view.
CRANE SHOT

This is an example of the crane shot. The camera starts very high and then gradually gets lower and this is done by the camera being positioned on a cran to get a high angle shot. A crane shot is commonly used to view actors from above which is also called a birds eye view to move up and away from them, or used for the ending of a film.
CRASH ZOOM SHOT

Although this is not a very nice zoom shot as it is a shot of the twin towers burning down, this is a crash zoom out because when you watch this shot it is zoomed in on the tower the all of a sudden very quickly zooms right out to the wide shot.
REVERSE TRACKING SHOT

This is an example of a reverse tracking shot. As you can see the background looks like its moving and the people in the foreground stay the size size this shot is done by the camera doing a tracking shot but instead of moving left or right on the track it will move forward and backwards on the subject.
WHIP PAN

This is an example of a whip pan. When you watch the video the camera is focus on 2 people then all of a sudden the camera spins around to catch someone walking through the gate. Whip pan is a type of pan shot in which the camera moves sideways so quickly that the picture blurs into indistinct streaks.
TRACKING SHOT

This is an example of a tracking shot in Kill Bill. The camera in this shot moves on wheels as you can tell because it is very steady. A tracking shot is also a camera that is mounted on a wheeled platform thats is pushed on rails while the shot is being filmed. The tracking shot can include smooth movements forward, backward, along the side of the subject, or on a curve.
PANNING SHOT

This is a wide panning shot of the sea. A panning shot is when the camera stays in the same position but pivots left and right to film for instance a fast car speeding past or the this case the sea and everything around it. The panning shot is used to suggest fats motion and bring out the subject from elements in the frame. Slow panning is also combined with zooming in or out on a single subject.

Sherlock Holmes Film Review

I think this film has a very good story to it and is probably one of the best films I have seen in a long time. It had all the things a good film needs for example drama and action, without it being turned into a cheesy romance between the 2 main characters.

It is not my type of movie but I like the fact that it is quite exciting and starts to make you think more like a dective.
My best scene in the film was when Irene was on the pig shredder as I was on the edge of my seat as it wasn't clear before if she was going to be killed. Also another scene is the fight scene, because it is full of action and fast paced.

Over all I thought Sherlock Holmes was a very interesting and mysterious film.  I think Jude Law plays a really good character in the film because we don’t know whether he is playing the good or bad guy until the end which is why it is mysterious.
